Who We Are

District Institute of Education & Training (DIET), Biswanath was established as per the recommendation of the National Policy on Education, 1986, with the objective of strengthening and upgrading the school education system at the district level. As a government-supported teacher education institute, DIET Biswanath plays a pivotal role in promoting holistic development of school education through both school improvement and teacher capacity building.

Since its inception, DIET Biswanath has been actively engaged in conducting various training programmes, workshops, seminars, research activities, and development of teaching-learning materials aimed at enhancing the professional competence of teachers.

In Assam, six DIETs were initially set up in 1989 during the first phase, followed by five more in the second phase, and another seven in the third phase (1996). DIET Biswanath was among those established to cater to the local educational needs of the district.

At present, the institute functions with essential infrastructure including an Administrative Building, Academic & Staff Block, and dedicated classrooms to support its activities. Over the years, DIET Biswanath has continued to evolve as a hub for teacher education, striving to uplift the quality of elementary education in the district.

Geographical Location of DIET, Biswanath DIET, Biswanath is situated under Biswanath district (previously a part of undivided Sonitpur district) at Biswanath Chariali, which also serves as the district headquarters. The campus is located in a serene environment, easily accessible from the main town area. To its north lies the Brahmaputra River, to the south spreads the lush green tea gardens and villages, to the east extends the National Highway connecting Biswanath with other major towns, while to the west are the rural settlements and paddy fields of Biswanath Chariali. The location of the institute offers a peaceful academic environment while being historically and culturally enriched as part of the greater Sonitpur region, known for its heroic past and diverse heritage.

From the Principal's Desk

The District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Biswanath was established as a pivotal part of the larger mission of achieving excellence in education in India. As a part of this mission, DIET, Biswanath has been rigorously involved in imparting training and orientation to teachers both in pre-service and in-service education, developing resource support such as extension, guidance, materials, teaching aids and tools, and conducting action research in the district of Biswanath.

The changing global scenario urges the Indian education system to be more flexible, holistic, experimental, integrated, learner-centered, and discussion-based so that critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities can be inculcated among students. Our institute is deeply dedicated to adapting to such changes. Our faculties are committed to bringing out efficient and capable teachers to meet the demands of the current education scenario.

Apart from this, we work closely with various allied institutions, social workers, NGOs, and other stakeholders to develop a collaborative approach to fulfill our vision and mission. We are also planning to implement activities as per NEP-2020. We hope to build a competent educational system, marked by high quality, equity, and integrity in the district of Biswanath.
